When you listen to Emily Costs’s podcast Adulting with MOST, the Black Eyed Peas’ popular song, I Gotta Feeling, will start blaring through your speakers just before she introduces herself. “Hello, and welcome to Adulting with MOST! Hi, my name is Emily. I’m a young adult and a very friendly person who loves animals. I was born with a rare genetic disorder called Prader-Willi syndrome.” Emily always takes a moment to explain that it’s a “disorder that makes you overeat because you never feel full” before explaining a little about MOST to the listener and gushing about her fiancé John. He has become a bit of a celebrity in these podcasts just by appearing in the introduction every time.

Their story is sweet – they met at a camp and fell in love…and Emily was gracious enough to share a little peek into their lives with the world in a YouTube video. That’s the great thing about these podcasts – you can see Emily share a lot about herself and the important people in her life, which is good since, “I want to share my life and the lives of others with disabilities, and the challenges we face every day. I want the world to be accepting and understanding of people – yes, people – like us.”

Emily started her podcast after, “it was brought up to me by my staff at MOST – you’re really good at talking to different people and stuff!” This is abundantly clear when you listen to an episode. Her voice is always filled with love and excitement and a little laugh. She’s engaging and caring and lets everyone answer her questions beautifully before moving on to the next.

How does Emily create her podcast? It starts by knowing who she wants to interview. She reaches out to friends and people she’s met with the MOST program and tailors all of her questions to fit that person. After that, it’s just a matter of setting up a mutually agreeable time. 

You can tell when you listen just how instrumental the podcast has been in her life, and you will probably be sad to see that she hasn’t added any new episodes in nearly a year. That’s because she’s not sure if she’s going to continue with it. Certainly not in the immediate future, because MOST is starting to go back to the volunteer sites, making it trickier to interview people due to their availability. She also noted that she wouldn’t be with MOST for much longer, as it isn’t a long term program.
